Two days to discover the beautiful Val di Sole and the nearby Val di Pejo and Val di Rabbi

The stages

Our first day in Val di Sole begins at Terme di Pejo, in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, where we drink some good hot spring water, which makes us begin our day in the best of ways. We then reach the botanical park “Il giardino dei Mezoi”, where Olga Casanova accompanies us on a guided tour to the discovery of the many Alpine plants she grows. We are fascinated by the numerous Edelweiss flowers, which, as Olga explains, are used in the preparation of high-quality cosmetics. Coming back to the country, we make a mandatory stop at the Caseificio Turnario di Peio dairy, the last of this kind still standing in Trentino. President Riccardo Casanova explains that the dairyman processes daily milk from the valley shepherds, and caserada, namely, daily cheese production, is assigned, to one of the dairy’s members, according to a rotation system, and the number of daily products given to each member is proportional to the quantity of milk delivered. We try a bit of Casolét made with raw milk, and its flavour is really unique!! We cannot resist purchasing freshly churned butter; tomorrow's breakfast will have a different taste!

For lunch, we go to Agritur Volpaia, in the nearby village of Vermiglio. Here, Sabina offers us a wide choice of typical dishes from Trentino and Val di Sole, among which is the classic potato pie, ricotta canederli, Vermiglio Scarpacce and baby gnocchi with blueberries and speck, we really do not know what to choose.

Descending towards Val di Sole, we stop at Mezzana to visit the Presanella Dairy, and its brand new historical and educational journey titled “Yesterday like today”; here, we discover the whole history of genuine mountain milk and its transformation into tasty cheeses, from Trentingrana to Casolèt, from nostrano to caciotta. At the end of the visit, we move to the historic centre of Malè and go for a good snack at the Pasticceria Café Roma, where Gianluca invites us to taste one of his specialties: apple fritters! After visiting the Museo della Civiltà Solandra of Malè, we decide to reach the Maso Fior di Bosco in San Bernardo di Rabbi; we will spend our night here!an Bernardo di Rabbi, in questo splendido esercizio passeremo la nostra notte!

Rested and refreshed, we reach the nearby hamlet of Pracorno and Agritur Ruatti; here, a delicious and rich dinner ends our day in the best of ways!

We get up early and after an abundant breakfast we head to Fontanino, where we leave our car for a lovely 45-minute walk until we reach Malga Stablasolo (alternatively, in summer, we can reach the destination by shuttle bus). Here, Armando will be able to recommend some hikes around the pasture, such as to the Saènt Waterfalls, and be happy to wait for us with a delicious lunch.

We go down along Val di Sole and, prior to returning home, stop at the  Pedergnana Ettore Farm, located in Tozzaga di Caldes. Here, we buy excellent cold cuts, from the famous lucanica sausage to speck, all produced with livestock raised in the farm, which you can also visit. Our weekend in Val di Sole ends with this stop, but we will be back soon because we still have so many things to discover.
