Predaia: flavours and history from the old days

Predaia: flavours and history from the old days

Description

A day to discover the tastes and treasures of the fascinating Predaia Plateau.

Our day begins in Rocchetta, a natural border between Piana Rotaliana and Val di Non, from which, in just a few minutes, we reach Vigo di Ton and visit the imposing Castel Thun. On our way to the castle, we meet Mieli Thun, a farm that produces with passion monofloral honey, as well as exquisite woodland, fir or wildflower honeydew. Going up Val di Non, after a few kilometres we reach Mondomelinda, the visitor centre that welcomes all those who want to know more about the cultivation and production of Melinda apples; here, you can make your purchases too! Don't miss the virtual journey into the Golden Theatre, discovering the underground cells.

If we want to reach Passo Predaia for lunch, we can choose to stay in the nearby village of Tres, where we find La Sidreria restaurant of LM, the only company in Trentino to produce apple cider, or, we can continue a few kilometres to reach Hotel Rifugio Sores, where Teresa will offer us some of the typical dishes of the local tradition.

In the summer, from mid-June to mid-September, we can continue our climb until reaching Malga di Coredo. Here, children can have fun with the many farm animals, while adults can indulge in food tasting and buy delicious cheeses directly produced in the mountain dairy. Alternatively, we continue our journey to reach the scenic towns of Sfruz, Smarano and Coredo. Here, we can learn about the processing methods of the Val di Non smoked Mortandèla: visit the Macelleria F.lli Corrà in Smarano or "Dal Massimo Goloso" in Coredo! From the centre of the village of Coredo, along Viale dei Sogni, we can walk to the “Due laghi” resort. Along our path, we will also meet Coredo's Dairy, where Cornelio will explain to us all the secrets of their cheeses. Once at “Due Laghi”, if we want to make a loop, we can return to Coredo passing through the hamlet of Tavon, where we can visit the horse stables of Agritur Agostini.

For dinner, we stop at Coredo; we are unsure whether to give a try to the typical potato “tortei” at Ristorante Sport, or even go to nearby Tavon, to Ristorante Alla Pineta, where Chef Mattia can suggest very delicious dishes. The only thing we know for sure, is that no matter what we choose, we will be satisfied.
