Maso Schneider

A family story rooted in farming and mountain life, among the meadows of Val di Fiemme, where hospitality grows naturally from the land

A family story rooted in farming and mountain life, among the meadows of Val di Fiemme, where hospitality grows naturally from the land.

Some places simply offer a view of the mountains; others let you experience mountain life from within. At Maso Schneider, above Cavalese, the farm stay is closely connected to the everyday work of the Varesco family, mountain farmers for generations. Their story goes back to 1950, when Vitale and Amelia built the first stable. Since then, several generations have carried on the same values: a love for animals, care for the land and a deep connection with mountain life.

Today, this traditional way of life meets a simple, contemporary form of hospitality. The farm is surrounded by the meadows of Ville di Fiemme, in a privileged panoramic position overlooking the Lagorai range, the Pale di San Martino and Corno Nero. The rooms, made from natural Val di Fiemme spruce, feature balconies or terraces where guests can enjoy the light, silence and scenery of the valley.

Staying at Maso Schneider means, above all, getting a glimpse into the life of a working farm. Guests can discover the daily work of the farmers, meet the animals and see the cycle that begins with grass in the meadows and ends with milk on the table. The family cares for around 200 animals, produces the hay needed to feed them during winter and has also managed the Cazorga mountain pasture in Val Cadino for more than thirty years.

It is an experience made of small details and sounds that are rarely heard in everyday life: the bells of the cows returning to the stable, the scent of freshly cut grass and the rhythm of milking. Then comes breakfast, where the farm reaches the table through milk, yoghurt and cheese made from their milk and produced by the local Caseificio Sociale Val di Fiemme, together with cured meats, bread, homemade preserves and cakes.

Breakfast is perhaps where the spirit of the farm is most clearly expressed: no unnecessary embellishments, just the pleasure of genuine, local food. A table that follows the seasons and tells the story of the work taking place every day just outside the door.

The spaces themselves reflect the meeting between past and present. Natural wood, contemporary details and modern comforts coexist with a family history that remains very much alive. The name “Schneider”, the family's traditional nickname, has become the name of the farm itself, a place where generations of farming experience are now shared with those who choose to stay.

And beyond the farm, Val di Fiemme is waiting to be explored: trails, forests and meadows lead towards the Dolomites and the Lagorai range, offering countless ways to experience the landscape on foot, by bike or in winter.

At Maso Schneider, a holiday becomes an immersion in mountain life: waking up to the light over the meadows, hearing the bells from the stable, tasting fresh local products and watching the sun set over the mountains. A place where old and new live side by side, and where hospitality is simply the most natural way for a family to share its story.
